This course aims at providing students with the skills to organise and implement vocal/choral programs suited to the primary school context, with an emphasis on establishing primary choirs. Vocal training techniques, selection and adaptation of appropriate repertoire and conducting skills will be the focus of the course.

Objectives

At the completion of this course student's will demonstrate:

1. skills in the selection and adaptation of suitable repertoire.
2. effective conducting techniques.
3. appropriate vocal techniques.
4. part singing in choral groups.
5. organisational skills for primary school choral groups.

Content

The course will involve workshops where students will be given musical concepts and practical hands on experience in vocal techniques as well as leading and conducting choral groups.

Other: (please specify)	Assessment Item 2 (40%) A resource folder of material suitable for the primary context, with suitable warm ups, 3 unison songs, 3 rounds, 3 2-part songs.
Other: (please specify)	Assessment Item 3 (30%) A demonstration of the ability to teach and conduct a unison song or 2-part song from the resource folder. Students will work in small groups and conduct the group for the assessment.
Other: (please specify)	Assessment Item 4 (15%) Sing a unison song from the class repertoire or ABC Sing 2009.

Compulsory Components

Requisite by Enrolment	Students enrolled in the programs Bachelor of Music and the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Music, are not permitted to enrol in this course if already enrolled as a vocal major student
