This course is the second of two guitar courses (the other being MUSI2001) that introduce students to elementary guitar technique and musicianship. Students will need to have completed MUSI2001 or demonstrate that they have the equivalent level of skill. Students will continue to develop a repertoire of songs and pieces in various styles to independently further their development on the instrument. This course will expand their knowledge of chords, strumming patterns and techniques. Students will be introduced to improvisation techniques and continue to develop their skills so as to be adaptable to different contexts including the primary classroom. Students will be requested to practice specific music repertoire outside of regular tutorial times to successfully complete the course.

Objectives
On successfully completing MUSI2014 students will be able to perform:

1 An extension of chords previously used including barre chords and 7ths.
2 An understanding of how chords are built.
3 More advanced strumming and rhythmic patterns.
4 Expanded right hand and left hand techniques.
5 An understanding of common chordal structures e.g 12 Bar Blues.
6 A basic understanding of improvisation techniques.
7 Tuning techniques.
8 Using a capo.
Content
1. Technical work related to a variety of performance repertoire.
2. Sequentially selected repertoire of performance materials.
3. Basic accompaniment skills.
4. Music literacy skills and aural development appropriate to the level of performance.
5. Introductory improvisation exercises.
