This course considers the use of audio equipment in the scenario of live music performance. Students will study a range of topics associated with sound reinforcement systems for music. This may include information about amplification equipment, safety issues, system configuration for various locations, microphone usage, room acoustics, cabling, basic electronic principles and monitoring. By the completion of the course they will obtain an understanding of many industry-standard practices in live sound.
| Objectives | By the end of this course, students will be expected to: 1. demonstrate an understanding of audio amplification equipment; 2. demonstrate an understanding of the configuration of live sound systems; 3. demonstrate an understanding of basic electronics principles as applied to live sound; 4. demonstrate an understanding of gain structure and signal flow and be able to approach problem solving logically; 5. possess a knowledge of (and practically apply) safety and maintenance concerns; 6. demonstrate the ability to use email, access web-based resources and to participate in electronic discussion groups. |
