The oncology assessment and radiation therapy of major disease sites is covered so that students develop clinical reasoning skills to manage patients/clients, and professional practice and procedures.
| Objectives |
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 1. describe the epidemiology, etiology and natural history of oncological related illnesses 2. compare & contrast the different modalities of oncology treatment 3. describe the process of patient management, diagnosis and decision making in oncology 4. describe and apply conformal approaches to radiation therapy, therapy including simulation data acquisition; plan design, plan evaluation and critique; dose calculation and treatment sheet development;, and treatment implementation 5. develop clinical reasoning skills in patient management, patient quality of life assessment, treatment evaluation, image and verification technologies/treatment assessment 6. communicate their understanding of professional practice skills both in written & oral form 7. critically appraise research literature through the use of structured critical appraisal approach to gather evidence to inform practice 8. use information technology skills to conduct a literature search using all major information technologies 9. develop and apply self learning skills 10. reflect on and evaluate personal & peer contribution to the learning process via formal self & peer assessment |
