The nature of leadership and entrepreneurship exposes differences and similarities evident in the behaviours, strategies and achievements of leaders across a wide range of settings, including organisational size, industry type, strategic focus, and cultural orientation. The theories and practices in modern global organisations, inclusive of those strategies underpinning entrepreneurship, not just within new, independent small businesses, but also within medium-size and larger organisations are examined. Students engage in critical analysis, discussion and experiential exercises developing valued professional knowledge and attributes.

Objectives On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Apply theories underpinning the examination of leadership in group-based and organisational settings
2. Analyse and distinguish between the processes of entrepreneurship practiced in differing types of organisations
3. Appreciate critical differences inherent in leader behaviours according to social, cultural and contextual settings
4. Demonstrate an integrative understanding of the knowledge, skills and motivational profiles necessary for successful
entrepreneurial act
5. Employ inquiry processes to examine and analyse the interrelationships between leadership and entrepreneurship in the
modern commercial world
6. Appreciate that analysis of leadership and entrepreneurship systems and paradigms can promote personal reflection and
direction.
7. Engage in independent and collaborative work processes to critique, negotiate and communicate leadership and
entrepreneurship understanding.
Content Lectures may include, but are not restricted to, the following topics:
1. Developments in leadership theories and paradigms
2. Knowledge, skills and motivational profiles of successful entrepreneurs in a variety of business contexts
3. The leader as expert, philosopher, psychologist, motivator, generalist manager, visionary, or entrepreneur; international differences and preferences
4. Organisational change and leadership
5. Economic versatility and volatility; and their respective identifiable impacts upon entrepreneurial success
6. Transformational leadership; achievements and failures

Transition This course is not available to students who have successfully completed BUSN2550 and BUSN2200.
