Innovation and Enterprise

Extends the students' knowledge at an advanced level of the critical significance of innovation for enterprises and develops their capability to facilitate innovation in organisations confronted by turbulent market environments and structural industry transformation.

Objectives
The objectives of this course are to ensure that students can:

1. develop and extend their understanding of innovation and knowledge management
2. demonstrate familiarity with the dynamic complexities in local and international business environments and establish their capability to monitor important business developments
3. expand their understanding of different types of innovation
4. develop their capacity to identify significant innovations, to analyse the applicability of specific innovations in a particular business context, and to determine an innovation's strategic fit with the enterprise's requirements
5. expand their understanding of types of knowledge
6. develop their capacity to identify different approaches to the management of knowledge and knowledge work
7. understand the concept of a 'learning organisation' and how to establish and maintain a learning organisation
8. evaluate and assess enterprise innovations (ie costs and choices)

1. Introduction to innovation and knowledge management
2. Investigation of the dynamic complexities in local and international business environments and establishment of capabilities to monitor important business developments
3. Introduction to types of innovation
4. Identification of significant innovations, analysis of their applicability in a particular business context and determination of the degree of strategic fit with the enterprise's requirements
5. Introduction to types of knowledge
6. assessment of approaches to the management of knowledge and knowledge work
7. Establishment and maintenance of a 'learning organisation'
8. Evaluation and assessment of enterprise innovations
