This course will explore what we mean by the term multidisciplinary practice. participants will review different practice models, ranging from interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary care and their relationship to the organisation of care. participants will be encouraged to consider these issues in the context of the continuum of care. Evidence on the organisation of stroke care will be critiqued to determine its influence and relevance in clinical decision making in a range of different settings. The role of each team member, including each of the professions and the patient/carer will be reviewed in the context of multdisciplinary team goals and outcomes. participants will have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills and to apply what they have learned to their own stroke services.

Objectives Upon completion of this course participants will:

1. Promote the development of health professionals with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to function as an expert clinician within specialist multidisciplinary stroke services.
2. Enhance patient outocmes through the application of best practice in the clinical setting through the skills of a multidisciplinary stroke team.
3. Enhance the capacity for the development of ongoing quality assurance initiatives and research in stroke management across the professions and throughout the continuum of care.
4. Contribute towards a reduction in stroke morbidity and mortality by promoting stroke clinicians as champions of stroke care with broad ranging knowledge and skills in service planning, development and evaluation.
