Develops a knowledge of and skills in best practice as recommended by the Quality Assurance Project, National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre. Subtopics include: brief interventions; approaches to opioid dependence; management of alcohol problems; approaches to smoking cessation.

Objectives Followin gsuccessful completion of this cours you will be able to:

Describe the theoretical underpinnings of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Be familiar with the research assessing the effectiveness of CBT
Demonstrate interpersonal coping skills training in the treatment of alcohol problems
Demonstrate intrapersonal coping skills training in the treatment of alcohol problems
Apply CBT in relation to injecting drug use
Apply CBT in relation to cannabis use
Apply CBT in relation to cocaine and amphetamine use
