Develop core knowledge and analytical skills for understanding alcohol and other drug and drug problems in individuals and groups in their social contexts. On completion, students will be able to:
a) demonstrate the ability to think critically about alcohol and other drug use and associated problems and critically analyse sources of information;
b) describe and critique models of alcohol and other drug use;
c) describe commonly used psychoactive drugs and their effects;
d) discuss patterns of alcohol and other drug use;
e) discuss the impact of alcohol and other drug use on individuals and families;
f) discuss approaches to prevention of drug related problems;
g) discuss current psychological and medical trends in treatment for drug problems.
