Diabetes Care: Clinical Attachment

MEDI6120 is a core course. Candidates must have made satisfactory progress with either MEDI6100 or MEDI6110 before commencing the course. MEDI6120 provides a minimum of fourteen days of advanced and intensive training at an accredited, regional Centre of Excellence. This is considered to be an essential element of the course structure for primary care practitioners planning to establish themselves as Diabetologists. MEDI6120 will also provide opportunities for resolving any outstanding learning issues arising from clinical practice and for obtaining expert advice in relation to the practice audit.

Objectives
To gain a greater knowledge of management issues
To gain a greater knowledge of management issues associated with various cases of diabetes within many departments of a hospital;
To develop/enhance high level management skills in these areas
To develop/enhance self directed learning skills
To develop/enhance the ability to apply a body of knowledge to individual clinical contexts;
To enhance the ability of candidates to critically analyse the information available in this setting.
Content
Candidates will attend an accredited Centre of Excellence for intensive clinical training. During that time they will also have the opportunity to resolve important learning issues and obtain advice in relation to their practice audit. Candidates will be required to maintain a log book of their activities during the attachment.

Assumed Knowledge
Knowledge equivalent to that gained in an MBBS degree and from the course, Introduction to Diabetes Care, will be assumed. Participants must be medical practitioners working in area of diabetes care.
