MEDI6100 is a core course. It consolidates and extends learning about critical issues in diabetes prevention, diagnosis and management, broadens understanding of community-based aspects of diabetes and further develops understanding of the relevance of literature review and evidence-based medicine. It will assist candidates to identify key practice issues appropriate for the Practice Audit and provide further understanding and knowledge to complement the Clinical Attachment.

Objectives To gain a greater knowledge of diagnosis and management issues associated with diabetes
To develop /enhance high level diagnosis and management skills
To develop / enhance self-directed learning skills;
To provide clinical knowledge to assist with other courses within program
Content A series of paper-based cases will explore issues in diabetes mellitus, including review and extension of the key themes developed during the Introduction to Diabetes Care. These paper-based cases will be issued at approximately six-week intervals.

Assumed Knowledge Knowledge equivalent to that gained in an MBBS degree and from the course, Introduction to Diabetes Care, will be assumed. Participants must be medical practitioners working in area of diabetes care.

All assessment items require a critical level of analysis of resource materials and reflective use of the materila in the candidate's own practice. Evidence of this will be gauged by the quality of performance in the set tasks.
