Lifecourse determinants of health: lessons from film and literature

This course is designed to introduce students to concepts of social and life-course determinants of health and well-being using stories from contemporary culture.
| Objectives | At the end of the course the student will: 1. understand and be able to discuss the concept of social determinants of health 2. have developed a critical understanding of some theoretical considerations relevant to a life-course perspective on social determinants of health 3. understand and be able to discuss the interplay between nature and nurture in the development of physiological, neurological and psychological functioning 4. understand how experiences earlier in life influence health and wellbeing outcomes later in the life course 5. have developed an awareness of the capacity for autobiographical material to inform their understanding of developmental pathways 6. have demonstrated capacity to undertake a research task examining an aspect of social determinants of health |
