This course explores the doctor-patient relationship and the context of illness and health in society through the study of literature, music, history and the visual arts.

Objectives At the end of the course the student will have
1) demonstrated an improved ability to observe carefully and draw accurate conclusions
2) demonstrated enhanced understanding of and empathy for the patient experience, thus contributing to the professionalism of learners
3) examined the role of creativity and imagination in patient care
4) gained a greater understanding of the human condition.
5) examined the changing nature of the doctors role in society
6) examined the way society constructs disease and the implications of this construct for doctors and patients
7) developed the skills to reflect and express their personal feelings about learning to be a doctor
