Introduction to Medical Studies is a course designed to prepare international students for the Bachelor of Medicine (B Med) program coming from MARA Banting college (Malaysia). A major component of this course will be developing language and communication skills necessary for health professionals. Students will be introduced to the Bachelor of Medicine learning styles and assessment techniques including; problem based learning, self directed learning, and group learning. The course will address various aspects of Australian culture and society in a medical context.
ObjectivesBy the end of the course, the student will demonstrate: 1. language and communication skills sufficient: - to adequately participate in problem based learning tutorials - to give presentations - to engage with patients in hospitals 2. an understanding of the learning styles and strategies of the B Med program as well as the skills to cope with: - problem based learning - self directed learning - group learning 3. an understanding of the Australian culture and society and its impact on health care including the; - historical and cultural make up of the population - political structure - health care system (structure and burdens) - contemporary issues | |||
