Presents advanced topics in industrial systems modelling, simulation, management and integration presented as a process for problem resolution, policy crafting and decision making.
| Objectives | The objective of this course is to provide advanced concepts of systems engineering and management which is concerned with the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment, and energy. It is presented on computer modelling and simulation perspectives and emphasis is placed on developing engineering management problem solving skills. The first part of the course covers such topics as systems approach, problem solving process, models and model building, applications of simulation, introduction to graphical modelling framework, and network modelling. The second part provides advanced concepts of model building and computer simulation. Emphasis is placed on strengthening modelling, decision making, and problem solving skills by providing a number of problem examples facing industry, commerce, government and society that illustrate procedures for modelling systems with limited resources (both human and technical), breakdowns, uncertainties, and complex logic and decision structures.
