The basic concepts related to bulk solids and their relative equipment design are presented based on the problems from industry. Also, the emphasis is placed on the decision making for designing or selecting suitable, reliable and economical equipment. Students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate Engineering Science and Master of Engineering Science will undertake this as a short course
| Objectives | The objective of this course is to provide the basic concepts of bulk materials properties, handling and transport system design. The emphasis is placed on developing engineering management problem solving skills. By the end of the course, students will be able to: A: characterize bulk solids B: design storage bins and feeders C: determine the bin wall and feeder loads D: measure the material level, feeding rate, loads, etc E: design full-scale pneumatic conveying systems F: design a dust suppression system for an industrial need G: be aware of other conveying systems |
