This course is Part A of a multi-term sequence. Part B must also be completed to meet the requirements of the sequence.

Part A and Part B must be in consecutive terms (regardless of mode - ie semester/trimester/block).
Students must complete Part A before completing Part B. Students must complete the sequence within a twelve month period. If students complete Part A but are unable to complete Part B within the timeframe, they must re-enrol in Part A.

Provides students with the opportunity to apply the skills developed over the previous three years to an open-ended engineering problem of their choice. Projects are supervised by a member of the academic staff and may be experimental, theoretical, computational or practical in nature. An important goal is to help students develop project and time-management skills, and the ability to communicate through the report and seminar.

Objectives

1. Allow students to expand their knowledge of core Mechanical Engineering course areas and apply
them.
2. Develop project management skills.
3. Enhance written and oral communication skills.
4. Encourage students to think across narrow course/topic boundaries.

Content

A project based on knowledge acquired during the first three years of the program. Students are responsible for reviewing current literature, design of equipment/experiments/models, learning/developing new techniques and implementing what they have learned to solve an engineering problem.
