MCHA3900
Mechatronic System Design II
10 Units
Available in 2014
| Callaghan Campus | Semester 1 |
|---|
Previously offered in 2013, 2012
This course builds on the skills introduced in MCHA3000 Mechatronic System Design I. Students deepen their knowledge on the mechantronic system design process and integrate further tools and skills developed in previous courses. It also develops concepts related to robotics applications, plus advanced topics of mechatronic system design like design for testing and fault-tolerant design.
A design project of a complete robotic system with specific dynamic characteristics and sensor requirements is undertaken. The course provides a real life experience related to the practice of mechatronics engineering.
| Objectives | The course provides students with a sound preparation for undertaking industrial mechatronic designs. At the completion of the course students will be able to: - Formulate specifications for adopting/designing different components of a mechatronic system - Approach mechatronic design using a structured approach - Understand how the choice of different components affects the choice of other components and the performance of a mechatronic system - Understand the role of advanced design features like design for testing and fault-tolerant designs - Understand how on-line optimization is used in complex mechatronic control systems that are subject to constraints - Acquire knowledge on applications related to robotic systems |
