This capstone course provides a vehicle for students to demonstrate their knowledge and capabilities relevant to their strategic career plans. This course emphasises the importance of formal and informal networking in facilitating employment opportunities.

Students are required to develop a comprehensive career portfolio that includes relevant documentary evidence of their professional preparation for a career in the leisure industries. This course also requires students to undertake a large Work Integrated Learning experience designed to further develop capabilities relevant to their career goals.

ObjectivesOn successful completion of this course, students will:
1. have gained demonstrable experience in a workplace /work training context that contributes to students identified career goals and interests.
2. critically evaluate the effectiveness of this experience in relation to individually developed learning objectives;
3. develop industry networks and contacts relevant to their career interests;
4. assess their professional strengths and weaknesses with reference to the student portfolio.

This assignment requires students to develop and submit a comprehensive portfolio that provides evidence of the skills and capabilities each student has developed over the course of their degree program relative to their career goals.
JournalProfessional Preparation Journal worth 20%. Students are to keep journal that demonstrates they ha reflected upon their careers in relation to independent reading and individual consultation with placement supervisor and course coordinator.
ReportsWork Integrated Learning Report worth 50%.
The WIL requires students to identify and undertake 60 hours of relevant experiences that will provide them with specific capabilities needed to attain their career goals. Students will be required to write a 1500 to 2000 word report that will provide evidence of the attainment of these identified skills and capabilities. The report will also demonstrate student's ability to critically reflect upon their Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience as it relates to the concepts and issues raised in this course.
