Legal System and Method is the foundational course in the Juris Doctor, which introduces students to the core intellectual and analytical skills in the discipline of law. In addition, the course begins the process of professional education through the study of professional written communication skills, advocacy and professional self-management skills.

Objectives At the end of the course students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate advanced and integrated understanding of the sources of law and elements of the Australian legal system.
2. Critically evaluate the area of common law and statutory interpretation
3. Apply legal knowledge in varying contexts to analyse and resolve legal problems.
4. Apply specialized technical skills in professional legal writing, appellate advocacy in the context of mooting
5. Demonstrate integrated ethical consciousness in professional legal contexts and adaptability associated with developing capacity for self-management in academic and professional contexts.
