LAWS courses are only available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Laws (LAWS) degree programs.

This course is available to Bachelor of Laws (LAWS) students who have obtained an average mark of 75% or more in all completed LLB courses or by arrangement with the Dean of Law. Refer to School policy on Honours contained in the School of Law Student Guide.

Consists of research and writing under supervision. The Honours course co-ordinator will provide guidance to each candidate concerning the definition of the topic of a proposed dissertation, and will also arrange appropriate supervision and guidance to the candidate at all stages of the dissertation research program.

Objectives The primary duty of the candidate is to produce the dissertation. The candidate must recognise that by enrolling in Advanced Legal Research and Writing he or she is seeking, first and foremost, to upgrade his or her academic qualifications. Accordingly, the candidate has the signal responsibility for the progress of the dissertation, and the final decision concerning the form and content of the dissertation rests with the candidate.
Content The syllabus will consist of research and writing under supervision within the School of Law. The Honours course co-ordinator will be responsible for providing guidance to each candidate in the course concerning the definition of the topic of a proposed Dissertation, and arranging supervision.

A supervisor of an Honours Dissertation will be responsible for providing appropriate guidance to the candidate at all stages of the research program for the Dissertation.
