This course will provide integrated language training at an advanced level including reading, writing, and oral discussion about contemporary socio-cultural issues in Japan. The teaching materials will be selected each year from a range of contemporary Japanese language sources such as newspapers, journals, and internet publications. The classes will be conducted bilingually and will be suitable for students of Japanese as well as students from Japan.
| Objectives | The course will focus on several issues widely discussed in contemporary Japanese media. By so doing, the students will acquire the ability to write about 200 additional kanji characters and recognize about 600 additional characters. They will be requested to write three one-page speech manuscripts in Japanese (English if the students are Japanese) on related issues, present them orally in class and discuss. | ||||||||

| Content | This course trains students to apply their knowledge that they obtained at 1000 and 2000 levels to social and cultural issues discussed in Japanese media. Students will develop confidence and ability to read, write, and debate about a wide range of contemporary issues. | ||||||||
