Information Technology Honours IV: Research Project

Further develops research skills through the continuing development of a research project commenced in the course INFT4020. The course is conducted under the supervision of an academic staff member who is the student's Honours research supervisor. By the start of this course, students will have completed a literature review, identified a suitable research question and developed a robust research design. This course develops initial drafts of the final Honours research project. Students will receive non-graded formal structured feedback from their supervisor on the student's progress at the end of this course.

Objectives
In this course students will:
1. implement a research plan;
2. where appropriate to the project, analyse collected data and communicate the results in a meaningful manner;
3. continue to demonstrate critical and analytical skills appropriate at Honours level;
4. continue to develop time management skills appropriate to research at Honours level;
5. continue to develop editing and drafting skills for research projects.
Content
The content of the research project will be substantially determined by the student, in that the student will choose, in consultation with the Honours Co-ordinator, the topic of his/her thesis or technical/creative project and on this basis will be allocated a supervisor from within this disciplinary area. The project area will determine the detailed content.
Drafting aspects of the thesis and technical/creative project appropriate to research projects undertaken at Honours level.

Transition
As the B Applied Information Technology (Honours) and B Information Science (Honours) programs will be discontinued from 2006, current students will be articulated into the new B Information Technology (Honours) program with full recognition of prior studies.

Continuation of a research project, under the direction of a nominated supervisor, which will take the form of a thesis dissertation or creative production pertinent to the field of Information Technology.
