The research project may take the final form of a thesis or technical/creative project with the primary objective of each being research. The course is conducted under the direct supervision of an academic staff member who is also the student's honours research supervisor. The course builds skills and develops competencies in research design pertinent to both thesis and technical/creative information technology projects including literature reviews, identification of specific research questions, appropriate methodological approaches, planning, skills and techniques. Students will receive non-graded formal structured feedback from their supervisor on their progress at the end of this course.

Objectives In this course students will:
1. plan independent research;
2. engage with prior literature and technical/creative material and articulate the relevance of the thesis or project to existing literature and work in the field;
3. where appropriate to the project, collect and analyse data;
4. continue to demonstrate critical and analytical skills appropriate to Honours level; and
5. further develop time management skills appropriate to research at Honours level.
Content The content of the research project will be substantially determined by the student, in that the student will choose, in consultation with the Honours Co-ordinator, the topic of his/her thesis or technical/creative project and on this basis will be allocated a supervisor from within this disciplinary area. The project area will determine the detailed content.
