Students examine contemporary literature relevant to their proposed research topic, focusing on theoretical perspectives and methodological assumptions. Students will undertake a subsequent literature review in order to develop a conceptual understanding of contemporary approaches to their field of information technology research.

Objectives In this course students will:
1. engage with prior literature and technical/creative material;
2. articulate the relevance of the thesis or technical/creative project to existing literature and work in the field;
3. demonstrate critical and analytical skills;
4. develop research, project and time management skills, and
5. develop thesis writing and production skills.
Content 1. A review of the current literature pertaining to the area of study.
2. An understanding of contemporary approaches to information technology.
3. Time management, research planning and thesis writing skills.

Transition As the B Applied Information Technology (Honours) and B Information Science (Honours) programs will be discontinued from 2006, current students will be articulated into the new B Information Technology (Honours) program with full recognition of prior studies.

Assumed Knowledge Students should
- have completed the requirements for admission to the relevant Bachelor degree of the University, or to another cognate degree approved by the PVC;
- have completed, in that Bachelor degree, the requirements of an approved major in the discipline area, or in a cognate discipline area approved by the PVC, to be undertaken in the Honours program.
