Description
This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the functional anatomy of the human body with emphasis on the musculoskeletal system, nervous system and major nerve trunks, vascular system, thorax, abdomen and pelvis. It contributes to the broad biomedical science foundation required for health graduates, and provides a firm basis for subsequent courses in advanced anatomy.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Understand and apply the appropriate use of anatomical terminology when identifying and describing structures of the human body
2. Name, identify and describe the bones of the human skeleton
3. Describe the structure of the vertebral column and spinal cord, and identify and describe the axial musculature of the human body
4. Identify and describe the joint structure, musculature, vasculature and innervation of the upper limb
5. Identify and describe the joint structure, musculature, vasculature and innervation of the lower limb
6. Describe the general anatomy of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis and identify the structures and organs located in these regions
7. Describe the anatomy of the head and neck region, including the structure and function of the brain
