Aims at providing students with a thorough understanding of head and neck anatomy with emphasis on those structures associated with the oral cavity. The course focuses on the anatomy, design and function of structures in the head and neck as they pertain to oral health.
| Objectives | Students should understand: 1. The structure and disposition of the bony elements of the skull, cervical, vertebral columns as they relate to the oral cavity 2. The course and distribution of the cranial nerves with emphasis on the facial and trieminal cranial nerves. 3. The structure of the nasal cavity, pharynx, soft palate, and oral cavity 4. The structure of the temporomanidibular joint, organs of hearing and balance 5. The anatomy of the upper and lower jaw, including teeth, gums, and palate 6. The anatomical and neural basis of respiration |
