A student may approach a member of the History discipline and ask him/her to supervise a directed reading and research project of their own making. Under the supervision of that member of the History discipline, that student is responsible for devising an appropriate reading list, which has to be approved by the discipline supervisor. Regular meetings with the supervisor are required. The student must also seek the approval of the Head of Discipline to enrol in HIST3001, and must have the approval of a member of the discipline willing to supervise the Directed Reading and Research topic.
