The focus of this course is on the multinational enterprise and the management of cross-border operations. Major topics include: the theory of the multinational corporations (MNCs); the evolution of MNCs; headquarter subsidiary relationships; the MNC as a learning organisation; market entry strategies including exporting, licensing, franchising and international manufacturing; MNCs and the internationalisation process; the strucutre and function of a MNC.

ObjectivesOn successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Critically discuss the theories of the Multinational Corporation and future challenges for theory.
2. Critically discuss the evolution of the MNC
3. Identify the nature of an MNC and the extent and pattern on MNC activity in the global economy.
4. Critically discuss the internationalisation process including motivation for internationalisation and modes of entry.
5. Critically discuss headquarter subsidiary relationships.
6. Critically discuss the styles of structures and functional operations typical of an MNC.
