HRD is a subset of HRM that focuses on learning, training and development. It has a specific orientation towards organisational learning interventions to improve skills, knowledge and attitudes. HRD also considers the interplay between national, organisational and individual needs. The course ranges from the broader aspects of HRD, such as skill formation across the labour market, the strategic role of HRD within organisations, to the more individualised aspects of HRD, such as influences on employee behaviour. Beginning with an overview of HRD, the course examines HRD Assessment, Design and Delivery in addition to topics concerning HRD and the Organisation such as the role of HRD in relation to organisational change and the various HRD interventions that may be utilised in the process.
ObjectivesOn successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Explain their and others’ learning processes; 2. Demonstrate a range of human resource development (HRD) competencies; 3. Discuss the role HRD and its contribution to organisational effectiveness, productivity and quality of working life; 4. Analyse the links between HRD and the individual, the workplace and the broader labour market; 5. Locate HRD not just in relation to HR practitioners but also in relation to line managers, supervisors and others who may undertake learning and developmental roles. | |||
