Managing Organisational Change

This course examines the environmental forces and processes influencing organisational change and how these influences affect the strategies, structures and contexts within which contemporary organizations operate. At the next level, the course considers the challenges facing change leaders and others working through change transitions such as how to work with change resistance and involve stakeholders during change implementation.

|Objectives||On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:|
1. Demonstrate an understanding of change theories, models and frameworks relating to organisational diagnosis
2. Demonstrate an understanding of change theories, models and frameworks relating to the implementation and evaluation of change initiatives
3. Review and analyse literature on change management issues, models and theories
4. Evaluate change models and theories
5. Design and present an academic research essay
6. Appreciate different perspectives on, and responses to, change and its management
|Content||This course develops your understanding of the issues and challenges facing managers of change. The course material will provide an understanding of human, environmental and structural issues and problems that influence the management of change.|
The course content aims to cover many aspects of organisational change management from environmental and organisational diagnosis and analysis, through to an understanding of the leadership challenges associated with change, to the evaluation of change projects.
The course incorporates content on the following topics:
1 The context and background to contemporary organisational change.
2 Analysis and diagnosis of organisations and their changing environments.
3 The management and leadership of change.
4 Resistance to change and ethical change management.
5 Politics, power, conflict and change.
6 Culture and change.
7 Strategies for planning and managing change.
8 Change management interventions.
Lectures examine and critically evaluate the theories and models associated with managing organisational change, and lectures and assignments provide students with the opportunity to apply theory, models and ideas to case examples and organisations.
