The course allows students to explore controversies in an area of management in which they are interested and may ultimately select for their dissertation. The course emphasises developing research questions, critically reviewing scholarly literature, crafting arguments and academic writing requirements.

Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Develop research questions based on practical management experience combined with theoretical and empirical literature;
2. Search out and critically review scholarly literature from various perspectives;
3. Analyse and evaluate controversies and debates within the management literature; and
4. Write an academic paper based on controversies in a selected area of management literature.
Content This course will examine the process of management theory development by examining the contributions of some of the most influential thinkers in management today. By examining how these theorists developed their ideas, students will learn to critically review management theories and present considered and balanced arguments on current management controversies. Students will be better placed to understand and master greater breadth and depth of management theory. Secondly, students will improve and increase the skills necessary for forming, assessing and applying theoretical arguments in the development and future implementation of the DBA Research Thesis.
