One of four advanced level Greek courses for students intending to proceed to a major in Greek. They consist of parallel reading and grammar classes, and provide students with the opportunity to read and comprehend the major Greek classics.
Only two of the courses GREK3520, GREK3530, GREK3540, GREK3550 will be offered in any given year.
Objectives1. To consolidate Greek grammar points covered at 1000 level and in GREK2510 2. To apply knowledge of major grammatical constructions to the reading of texts. 3. To read and understand Greek texts of a standard suited to students who have completed 20 units at 1000 level and GREK2510: including Attic Greek of various genres including tragedy and comedy, Homer, and Herodotus. 4. To enhance one's command of English by appreciation of its relation to and differences from ancient Greek. | ||||
ContentReading of texts (2: a major one of prose [Xenophon, Lysias or similar] and one of verse) of suitable difficulty for students who have completed 20 units of Greek at 1000 level + GREK2510. Study of the historical, literary, and cultural content of the set texts. Parallel study of relevant additional grammar. | ||||
