Aims to provide students with an understanding of how to manage and conduct Engineering Projects and knowledge and awareness of the tools required to do so. Provides students with a knowledge of the various engineering project management facets including managing the resources, controlling the budget, procurement and planning, environmental management, safety management systems, obtaining approvals, contract specification etc. Also provided will be an awareness of innovation and the business environment within which the Engineering Projects are conducted.
| Objectives | The purpose and objective of the course are to provide students with: a. Introductory knowledge of the conduct and management of engineering enterprises and the structure and capabilities of the engineering workforce. b. Appreciation of the commercial, financial and marketing aspects of engineering projects and programs and the requirements for successful innovation. c. Ability to assess realistically the scope and dimensions of a project or task, as a starting point for estimating costs and scale of effort required. d. Understanding of the need to incorporate cost considerations throughout the design and execution of a project and to manage within realistic constraints of time and budget. e. General awareness of business principles and appreciation of their significance. |
