French at Intermediate Level II

The aim of this course is for students to move from a basic knowledge of French to more complex uses of the language.

Objectives
The basic objectives are:
1. To develop further proficiency in communicating in the French language;
2. To provide a sound intellectual and practical basis on which to build further study of French language, literature and culture;
3. To have an understanding of people and their social world.
Content
A comprehensive language course designed as a sequel to FREN2610 that builds on the four skills of language acquisition: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Replacing Course(s)
Replaces FREN2620 which was deleted in 2002 as part of a rationalisation of core FREN courses into 20unit offerings. Required in order to provide BT/BA(Primary) LOTE students with a 10 unit 2000 level FREN course in Semester 2.

Assessment Items
Examination: Class
3 small tests, 5% each, 15mins, focusing on a specific grammatical point or verb conjugations;

3 written tests, 15% each, 1 hr, evaluating the content, vocabulary, grammatical structures and cultural knowledge covered in the last 2 episodes studied;
Examination: Oral
2 oral tests, 10% each, 10 mins, testing the ability to reply to simple questions about the story studied and communicate in French.
Examination: Formal
1 final exam - 20%, 2 hours. It aims to test the most important material covered throughout the semester.
