Covers a range of academic activities that are relevant to the use and effects of pharmaceuticals in communities. The course covers the behavioural aspects of drug use,including prescriber behaviour and methods that can be used to change this. The
importance of good questionnaire development in survey design is emphasised, as is the use of time series analysis when controlled observational or
quasi-experimental designs are not possible.
ObjectivesAfter completing the course, students will have the following knowledge or skills: 1. An awareness of important issues in questionnaire design for use in pharmacoepidemiological studies. 2. The capacity to conduct and accurately interpret the results of drug utilisation studies. 3. An understanding of the determinants of prescriber behaviours. 4. An appreciation of the techniques that can be used to change prescriber behaviours. 5. An understanding of the strengths and limitations of time series analysis. 6. The capacity to perform critical appraisal of published articles on drug utilisation and prescriber behaviour. | |
