EPHUMA137 introduces students to the basic dimensions and inequalities of contemporary Australian society. It also outlines the nature and operation of selected social institutions. Emphasis is placed on the skills of note-taking, research, analysis and essay writing that are widely applicable to tertiary study.
| Objectives | At the end of this course the student will have: 1. become acquainted with the basic dimensions and inequalities of Australian culture and society. 2. been introduced to the study of selected institutions in Australian culture and society. 3. have developed and displayed their knowledge of the content at various points throughout the course. 4. practised effective active listening and note-taking skills in lectures. 5. participated in tutorial presentations and discussions, thereby enhancing their oral literacy skills. 6. practised critical thinking, topic analysis, research, production and presentation of written assignments. 7. been provided with prompt assessment of their written assignments and tests. 8. engaged in examination performance under university conditions. 9. had an opportunity to develop self-discipline, as well as to assess their ability to succeed in tertiary study and to consider pathways in the Humanities and Social Sciences. |
