EPHUMA130 is designed to provide students with an introduction to the study of society and culture. It covers various methodologies that may be used in an analysis of culture and an understanding of culture's influence on behaviour, such as ethnocentrism, etic and emic research. Emphasis is given to the role of institutions and their contribution to society and indigenous Australians as an example of cultural change and survival.
| Objectives | Students will: 1. develop an awareness of continuity and change in society and culture. 2. gain some understanding of cultural institutions and their contribution to society. 3. develop knowledge of the theoretical underpinning of the role of culture in society. 4. develop skills related to research and academic writing for different purposes and audiences. |
