Academic Literacies 2 builds on and develops further the skills and content base as outlined for EPHUMA122. It is designed to meet the language skills of the students and prepare them for undergraduate study at university.

Learning Outcomes

1. Develop a deeper understanding of the construction of ideas in a wider variety of texts and will further develop the ability to analyse, evaluate and synthesise ideas as represented in factual and fictional texts

2. Develop a deeper understanding of the construction of ideas in a wider variety of texts and will further develop the capacity for independent research

3. Develop a deeper understanding of the construction of ideas in a wider variety of texts and will further develop the ability to construct argument in written and oral form with appropriate referencing skills

4. Develop a deeper understanding of the construction of ideas in a wider variety of texts and will further develop the ability to apply knowledge and critical skills in an examination setting

Content

  1. In this course, students will be required to research and present issues mainly in contemporary Australian society, using concepts introduced in semester 1, based on context, text and language. A variety of fictional and factual texts will be explored for their representation of these ideas and issues
  2. Academic essay writing skills introduced in semester 1 will be developed and the study of language in context will be in greater depth
  3. More advanced research skills and tutorial presentation skills.
