This course will provide students with an introductory understanding of Aboriginal Australia including community development. Students are expected to be involved in researching and designing health, education, employment and housing information for the Aboriginal community. This course aims to integrate and develop skills in the area of community, and inter-professional interactions, basic research and communication.
| Objectives | Students will: 1. develop basic skills in research including approaches to problem solving; gathering recording and interpreting data; report writing and presenting results. 2. develop their interaction and time management skills. 3. identify and participate in community projects. 4. investigate culturally appropriate ways in which to establish community projects. |

| Content | The main components of this course are: * Definitions and perceptions of health, employment, education and housing * Aboriginal health, employment, education & housing status * Social and cultural needs of Aboriginal communities * Strategies for improving Aboriginal health, employment, education and housing * Establishment of community and participant relationships * Basic research skills including question building; approaches to problem solving; gathering, recording and analysing evaluation data; report writing and presenting results to relevant participants * time management and communication skills. |
