This course covers key issues associated with managing natural resources in a sustainable way and balancing human demand with the need to maintain ecological integrity. The course will review basic ecological principles that underpin natural resource management and techniques used to facilitate management of terrestrial and aquatic systems. A case study approach will be employed to demonstrate theory in practice.
| Objectives | On completion of this course students will have: 1. Advanced understanding of the key ecological principals that underlie natural resource management; 2. An ability to apply key concepts in the field of natural resource management for problem solving across a range of contexts; 3. An ability to synthesize and critically analyse information from the primary literature and other sources and to communicate this information through written or oral modes; 4. An understanding of the roles of various stakeholders as they relate to natural resource management; 5. An understanding of the role of natural resource management in the broader context of sustainability, climate change, and ecosystem health. |
