Climate change is a leading environmental and public policy issue in Australia and globally. This course will explain the use of impact assessment methodology in assisting policymakers, business and the community better understand the likely consequences of climate change at various spatial and temporal levels. This course will provide an overview of project-based and strategic assessment approaches and analysis of key policy debates on climate change within Australia and Internationally.

Objectives On successful completion of this course, students will have:

1. an understanding of impact assessment methodology and its application to public policymaking on climate change.
2. Acquire an insight into the nature and use of impact assessment techniques and the current public policy issues within Australia and internationally on the human response to climate change.
Content Topics will generally include:
* Introduction to climate change
* History of environmental impact assessment (EIA) and contemporary challenges
* Impact assessment methodologies and theory
* Impact assessment and climate change
* International climate change policy
* Climate change policy in Australia
Replacing Course(s) This course replaces ENVS6540 Environmental Impact Assessment.
Transition Not required - This course replaces ENVS6540 from Semester 2, 2008 onwards.
