Description

This course builds knowledge and understanding of the discipline of English, encompassing the study of literature and the practice of creative writing. In particular, it enhances skills and capacities through the completion of an extended research thesis or creative project.

Learning Outcomes

1. An advanced comprehension of contemporary issues in English and creative writing.

2. An awareness of good practice in the design and presentation of a research project (either literary-critical or creative).

3. Acquired skills and methods necessary to undertake complex analysis and effective communication on topics in English and in creative writing.

4. Enhanced disciplinary knowledge by way of discussion of literary texts and readings.

Content

  • Writing a research thesis or creative project
  • Advanced skills development:
  1. researching a field of knowledge or creative production
  2. research work on a particular topic guided by a supervisor or supervisors
  3. effective communication of research and creative findings
  • Close study and discussion of texts and readings

Requisites

This course is only available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Arts (Honours)

A major in the discipline with a minimum credit grade average.
