This course builds knowledge and understanding of the discipline of English, encompassing the study of literature and the practice of creative writing. In particular, it enhances skills and capacities in developing a research proposal, and advances students mastery of disciplinary and practice aspects through writing assignments and engagement in discussion in seminars and workshops. The course includes discussions of theoretical directions in English and creative writing and student presentations of a research proposal.
| Objectives | By the end of this course students will have: 1. An advanced comprehension of contemporary issues in English and creative writing. 2. Instruction and practice in the preparatory work required for a research or creative project. 3. Acquired skills and methods necessary to undertake complex analysis and effective communication on topics in English and in creative writing. 5. Enhanced disciplinary knowledge by way of discussion of literary texts and readings. |

| Transition | The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Science Honours programs underwent an external program review in 2008. As part of this review some changes were implemented for all Honours courses. If you enrolled prior to 2009, you will be able to complete your Honours program as it stood at your time of enrollment, this being: - Your long research essay or major creative project will be 15,000 words. - You will be given opportunity to give an oral presentation of your work, but this is not mandatory. |
