This course is Part A of a multi-term sequence. Part B must also be completed in consecutive semester to meet the requirements of the sequence.
Because professional placement is with outside organisations, entry may be restricted and may be chosen by merit.
Students enter into an association with a co-operating host organisation where they develop their expertise in management of environmental and/or development projects and issues. Students complete a specific project for the placement organisation and submit a major report for University examination and course credit.
| Objectives | 1. To enhance student skills in applied project design, investigation and management. 2. To test the applicability of theoretical management principles via prolonged exposure to work place practicalities. 3. To assess the utility of organisational structures in addressing environmental and development management issues. 4. To develop students' awareness and understanding of contemporary opportunities for and constraints to environmental and/or development management. |

| Content | Students conduct (design, research and manage) a project on an environmental issue or a development issue of significance to the host organisation and produce a report, manual or plan for the organisation and for the University. Students also read widely about matters relevant to their organisation and their project and submit a written review to the host organisation. Students must satisfy the host organisation and the University that their part in the project is conducted professionally and performed satisfactorily. | ||

| Assumed Knowledge | For students to derive maximum value from this course and to ensure that the host organisations derive substantive benefits as well, it is essential that students have a satisfactory knowledge and skills base prior to placement. Students therefore should have completed all 2000 level core and major courses for their program prior to placement. | ||
