Develops skills in planning, communication, observation and lesson preparation within the Mathematics Key Learning Area.

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Objectives The course addresses the following objectives:
a. development of personal teaching skills
b. development of curriculum understanding in
the area of Mathematics
c. development of resources for teaching Mathematics in the secondary school
d. development of interpersonal skills in working with students and teachers

Cognitive demands underlying learning
Conducting practical lessons
Managing the classroom
Preventative managemant strategies
Adapting content for individual differences
Strategies for assessing different types of learning from the syllabus

Planning using teacher-directed strategies and matching syllabus content with strategies
Becoming a reflective teacher

Transition The new course will replace EDDE463 from Semester 1, 2000. Students failing EDDE463 will be required to enrol in and complete EDDE474.

Assumed Knowledge Completion of a degree with a major in Mathematics recognised by NSW Department of Education and Training.
