Provides preservice teachers with the opportunity to engage in new learning and learning that cannot be achieved in an academic setting. Preservice teachers will engage in a process of developing competence in planning, teaching, assessing, evaluating, reflecting and managing learning in school settings.

Hurdle Requirement - Attendance at all preparation lectures

Objectives Preservice teachers will:
1. Develop attitudes and values which give prominence to their own learning and that of others, an appreciation for the collaborative and social nature of much learning and self-monitoring strategies which promote learning for all.
2. Develop knowledge of curriculum content and instructional design.
3. Develop awareness of the complexities of teaching in its technical, practical, ethical and legal dimensions and a critical appreciation between the dimensions.
4. Practise the skills of student-centred and teacher-centred modes of planning, teaching, assessing and evaluating.
5. Develop competence in all learning outcomes by systematic referral to the indicators provided.

Replacing Course(s) Together with EDDE413 replaces EDDE401 Practicum.
Transition Students who have completed the requirements of one semester of practicum will be given credit for having completed this course. Students who have not completed EDDE401 by 2001 will enrol in EDDE412 and EDDE413.

Assumed Knowledge Diploma in Education students are assumed to have discipline knowledge sufficient to plan lessons
and lesson activities, assess learning, and answer
questions from pupils in schools relating to that
discipline knowledge.

Reports Students are assessed by teachers on their developing ability to plan instruction, deliver a lesson or a series of lessons and activities, evaluate their effectiveness, assess student learning, and manage resources and behaviour of students.

A pass (ungraded) will be recommended when:
1. The School of Education receives the original signed report indicating that the student has met requirements; and
2. The relevant Assistant Director of Professional Experience confirms that all requirements to pass the course have been met.

Withdrawal from a course containing a Placement.
This course contains a professional experience placement, so the official withdrawal policy is different to other University courses. In this course, students may withdraw without academic penalty one week or more before the placement is due to begin. In other words, the official final date for withdrawal is one week prior to commencement of the placement. This will allow prior notice to be given to schools of any students intention to withdraw from the placement, and may allow the place to be re-allocated.
Withdrawal after the official date will usually result in an F grade. If there are special circumstances, students may apply to the Head of School for permission to withdraw from the course, after the official final date, without academic penalty. Permission to withdraw will not normally be given to students who have begun the placement and been placed at risk or advised that they are likely to fail.
