This course develops an understanding of how to lead research capacity development in the higher education sector. It achieves this by taking participants through a series of important topics that are designed to provide professional development, research training and support for probationary staff, Early Career and Mid-Career researchers, in line with the contemporary University’s research strengthening priorities.

Objectives Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to:

1) Understanding of how a research career is built and maintained;
2) Demonstrate skills in strategic research planning;
3) Demonstrate an understanding of research leadership and capacity building;
3) Demonstrate an appreciation of the shifting research environment locally, nationally and internationally.
Content Indicative content will include:

- Research leadership, planning, and capacity building
- Planning for government research quality assessment (ERA) success
- Demystifying the Australian Research Council (ARC) as a funding body
- Effective study leave (SSP) programming
- Building and maintaining a research profile
- Rethinking the teaching-research nexus
