Theory and practice in the selection and application of technology to students who are blind or vision impaired (B/VI). Introduction to a wide variety of technology that assists individuals with vision impairment to access information. Provision of hands-on experience with a range of technology. Consideration is given to assessment, instructional strategies, financing and the use of technology for students with vision impairment.

Objectives Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to:
1. Identify international, national, regional, state and local sources of instructional materials and access hardware and software.
2. Identify factors that influence the selection and use of technology necessary for the education of students who are (B/VI)
3. Recognise issues relating to the writing of funding submissions for access technology.
4. Identify, configure and demonstrate basic use of a range of access technology for students who are B/VI.
5. Identify, configure and use mainstream technology that provides access to learning material for students who are B/VI.
6. Configure mainstream technology to enhance computer access for students who are B/VI.
7. Recognise issues and use various strategies to access print material, including Braille translation hardware and software.
8. Identify programs and develop procedures for teaching keyboarding skills to students who are B/VI.
9. Design and implement lesson plans and presentations for specific types of access technology.
10. Develop strategies to design simple documents that can be accessed by a student using a screen reader.
11. Identify access technology for children who are B/VI 12. Evaluate environmental factors that may influence the use of access technology.
Content Issues and concepts in the selection and application of technology for students who are B/VI. Content includes issues in the selection of technology, its implementation within educational setting and hands-on experience with range of computer hardware and software applications.
