Not available in 2012

Previously offered in 2011

In this course students will be introduced to a various epistemologies that affect current educational practice and outcomes. Students will be given the opportunity to consider alternate epistemological approaches and reconceptualisations, and to develop and articulate their own critical response to these philosophical considerations. Drawing on ideas from Wittgenstein on the one hand and quantum philosophy on the other, we shall explore the potential of empathetic epistemology and participatory consciousness to provide a new vision of what can be called 'emancipatory education'.

This course provides students with the opportunity to:
1. Discuss a range of epistemological approaches to education;

4. Demonstrate cogent reasoning and understanding of philosophical questioning and epistemological problems in education.
